Kelley’s Island

What/Where is Kelley’s Island?

Kelley’s Island is the largest American island in Lake Erie, located approximately five miles off the coast of Sandusky, OH and is just south of the US/Canada border. It is about a four hour drive from Cincinnati, and about a five hour drive from Toronto. If you’re flying into Cleveland (closest large airpot) it’s about an hour drive.

Is there a bridge/tunnel to Kelley’s Island?

No. The island can only be accessed via ferry service , boat or private aircraft.

Is there ferry service from Canada?

No. The ferries run from from Sandusky and Marblehead, OH.

What is the weather like this time of year?

Weather is typical of northern Ohio summers, with usually slightly cooler temps courtesy of Lake Erie. Depending on frontal activity, high heat and humidity are possible. Temps average around 80 degrees (27 celsius) for the high, 68 for the low (20 celsius).

Are cars allowed on Kelley’s Island?

Yes cars can be brought over via the Kelley’s Island Ferry (Jet Express is passenger only). Keep in mind parking is at a premium especially in downtown Kelley’s. There is also bike and golf cart rental available. The ceremony and reception venues are about 5-10 minute walk from the ferry docks.

Can I stay on the island?

Yes, but options are more limited. There are only a few hotels on Kelley’s, but there are B&Bs and rental homes available*. If you really feel like roughing it, there are campsites on the northern coast of Kelley’s Island. There are many options for hotels on the Ohio mainland in Sandusky and Port Clinton. BE AWARE OF FERRY SCHEDULES!

How expensive is it to stay on/near the island?

As stated above, it can be as expensive or as cheap as you want! You can rent homes between $1,000-$5,000 per week, stay in a B&B or hotel between $75-$400/night, bring your boat and stay at a marina or pitch a tent at a campsite!

Looks like a cool place! Can I come for longer than the wedding?

YES! We are encouraging anyone/everyone to come up for as long as you want! Spend all seven days with us, or do your own thing!

Holy shnikes is that Cedar Point I see?

YES! America’s Roller Coast is located in Sandusky, OH. We will likely plan a day at Cedar Point during our week long celebration, so feel free to join!

What else can I do while I’m here?

There are lots of things to see and do around the island! The island itself offers swimming, fishing, hiking and biking! In addition there are several local wineries both on the island and nearby. Put-In-Bay, the Key West of the Midwest is reachable via ferry. For more check out
